The Diocese of Metuchen has decided to suspend the broadcast of “Proclaim the Good News”.  In this episode, which aired on November 25, 2007, Fr. Jay Toborowsky spoke with Fr. Guy Selvester, a former host of PGN.  Together, Frs. Toborowsky and Selvester discussed their experiences of hosting the radio show over the past ten years.

Metuchen Diocese’s “Year of Prayer for Vocations”

This episode, which aired on November 11, 2007, is a repeat of an episode which aired in July of 2007.  In it, Fr. Jay Toborowsky spoke with Fr. Randy Vashon, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Metuchen.  The Diocese will dedicate a special “Year of Prayer” for vocations to the priesthood and religious life beginning on December 2, 2007 (the First Sunday of Advent), and Frs. Toborowsky and Vashon discussed what events will take place during the year.

$450m for State Funded Stem Cell Labs?

This episode, which aired on November 4, 2007, is a repeat of the October 7, 2007 interview with Jennifer Ruggiero of the Respect Life office of the Diocese of Metuchen.  In the episode, Fr. Toborowsky and Mrs. Ruggiero discussed the proposed New Jersey ballot initiative to spend 450 million dollars to create stem cell research labs across New Jersey.  Also in the episode, Fr. Toborowsky speaks with Stephen Sprague, who was cured of Leukemia through treatment with adult stem cells.

Respect Life Sunday and Stem Cell Research

In this episode, which aired on October 7, 2007, Fr. Jay Toborowsky interviewed Jennifer Ruggiero, Director of the Diocese of Metuchen’s Office of Pro-Life Activities.  The first Sunday in October is observed as “Respect Life Sunday”, and Fr. Toborowsky and Mrs. Ruggiero discussed the ”Stem Cell Research Bond Act” being proposed in the State of New Jersey.  If approved by New Jersey voters this November, 450 million dollars of public funds would be spent on the stem cell research, including stem cells obtained by the killing of human embryos.  Also on the show, Fr. Toborowsky interviewed Stephen Sprague, who was cured of Leukemia using adult stem cells, who is now an advocate for the use of adult stem cells and against the use of embryonic stem cells.

Fr. Joseph Fessio, SJ

In this episode, which aired on September 30, 2007, Fr. Jay Toborowsky interviewed Fr. Joseph Fessio, the founder of Ignatius Press.  Ignatius recently published the book, Jesus, The Apostles, and the Early Church, a collection of Pope Benedict XVI’s catechetical addresses from his weekly general audiences of 2006 and early 2007.  In the interview, Frs. Toborowsky and Fessio discussed Pope Benedict’s reasons for wanting to teach about such things as Jesus Christ’s intention to establish the Church, the supernatural nature of the Church, those who were chosen to be Apostles, as well as those men and women who became followers.  Fr. Fessio, a former student of the Holy Father as well as his longtime friend, also spoke about the yearly reunions the Pope continues to have with his former students.

Catholic Outreach to inactive Catholics

In this episode, which aired on September 23, 2007, Fr. Jay Toborowsky interviewed Fr. Joseph Celano, pastor of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and Mr. Neal Vartanian, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Old Bridge, N.J.  Frs. Toborowsky and Celano discussed work being done in parishes to reach out to Catholics who don’t practice their faith, and Mr. Vartanian explained how a program in his parish brought him back to an active life in the Roman Catholic Church.

Bishop’s Annual Appeal

In this episode, which aired on September 16, 2007, Fr. Jay Toborowsky interviewed the  directors of the Diocese of Metuchen’s Offices for Family Life, Respect for Life, Youth and Young Adult Ministries, and Catholic Campus Ministry of Rutgers University.  The weekend of September 16/17 is the kickoff for the 2007 Bishop’s Annual Appeal, and Fr. Toborowsky spoke with the directors about how contributions to the appeal help them in their work.

Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski

In this episode, which aired on September 9, 2007, Kathleen Ogle, editor of The Catholic Spirit (the diocesan newspaper), filling in for Fr. Toborowsky, interviewed Metuchen Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski.  This month Bishop Bootkoski celebrates 10 years since his episcopal ordination, and 2007 marked his 5th anniversary as Bishop of Metuchen.  In the interview, Bishop Bootkoski shares his memories of being named a bishop, being appointed Bishop of Metuchen, and his experiences in the Metuchen diocese during these past five years.
